Waterfalls are a heart of the tour – you can see lots of them in Baños, a small town in which you can relax surrounded by nature or try several extreme sports. Besides visiting Baños, take a walk on the equatorial line, enjoy the colourful market in Otavalo, see the winged virgin in the capital of the Ecuador. Still not enough? Well, you will also have a chance to admire giant snow-covered volcano, tropical birds or lakes in the craters.

Day 1. Quito

Welcome to Quito. There are no activities planned for today as you will have some time to rest after the journey. Late afternoon/evening there will be a meeting in the hostel with the leader of your group who will explain in more details the plan of your stay in Ecuador. Hungry? Don’t worry; yummy supper is included.

Day 2. Quito

Let your adventure begin! Quito is elevated over 2.800 m (9186 ft.) over the sea level so that you may notice the difference in your breathing, but don’t worry as it is quite natural. After breakfast, you will explore the city centre with its baroque Churches, cathedrals and white colonial houses. Then, we will go to the top of the Panecillo hill to see the winged Virgin monument and to admire the panorama of the city. Finally, we offer you a free afternoon for your exploration.

Day 3. Quito

After breakfast, we will take a ride by the cable car „Teleférico“ up to the upper part of the town, towards the Pichincha Volcano. From there, you will be able to admire great views and scenery of the city and the mountains. Also, you will have some free time for yourself. Take unrepeatable photos while being over 4000 meters (13123 ft.) above sea level. Then, we will give you free time for lunch. After the meal, will go to the iconic place of Quito – Mitad del Mundo (The Middle of the World) where the equatorial line divides the Earth. In this fantastic location, you will have a chance to be in the north and on the south hemispheres at the same time. Then, we will go to the Intinan museum in which you can do some interesting experiments with gravitation.

Day 4. Quito - Mindo

After breakfast, we will travel to Mindo, also known as “Cloud Forest”. Here, you will see a good example of the Ecuadorian nature. You will have a chance to admire wonderful and colourful species of birds such as toucans, parrots or hummingbirds. There is also a butterfly farm. After the exploration of the location with our guide, we recommend you to relax and enjoy your free evening. 🙂

Day 5. Mindo

We will eat breakfast and then you will have a chance to enjoy your free day in Mindo. This location offers you the following adventurous activities: rafting, zip line, trekking, bird watching, tubing, mountain biking and more. You will not be bored.

Day 6. Mindo - Otavalo - Cuicocha Crater - Quito

Early start. After breakfast, we will go to Otavalo which is famous for its handmade products which you can buy in many spots of the town. If you are lucky to be there on Saturday, you can experience one of the largest and most colourful handicraft markets in South America. On the other days, you can still buy plenty of souvenirs in the Plaza de Los Ponchos and the local shops.
Later that day, we will go to visit another astounding place – Cuicocha Crater. There is also a lake inside a crater at the foot of volcano Cotacachi of a diameter of roughly 3 km. The crater is not completely asleep, and it is possible to do the boat tour around the lake. In the evening, return to Quito.


Day 7. Quito – Cotopaxi National Park – Quilotoa Volcano – Latacunga

We start the day early. After breakfast, we will go to the National Park of Cotopaxi. Here, you will see the famous volcano Cotopaxi, one of the highest in the world (5897 m / 19347 ft.). This stratovolcano is cone-shaped and snow-covered. There will also be a trip to the Quilotoa volcano, a spectacular place where you will see a lake inside the crater. The lake is located 3500 m above the sea level (11482 ft.). A spectacular viewpoint is guaranteed. In the evening, transfer to the hostel/hotel in Latacunga.

Day 8. Latacunga - Baños

After breakfast, as we will be heading towards Baños. Be ready for the exciting day as there are over 60 waterfalls near this location. After lunch, we will see the town and then we will jump on the mountain bikes and go along the way of waterfalls “La Ruta de Las Cascadas”. Free time in the evening which you can use, for example, for trekking or try delicious food in the local restaurants.

Day 9. Baños

After the breakfast, the entire day is free for you. Explore something new or simply relax. You may wish to do some optional tours and activities such as jungle tour, white water rafting, zip line or kind of swing bungee jump. Afternoon, we recommend you to go to the view point to see the entire valley.

Day 10. Baños - Quito

Today we will go to famous tree house (of course, after the breakfast). There is a chance to admire the Tungurahua volcano. This place is also known for the amazing swing – while swinging; you can experience the illusion of being over the abyss. Afternoon, transfer to Quito.

Day 11. Quito

Breakfast and then your free day to enjoy. What can you do? Well, we recommend you visiting presidential palace or exploring local restaurants. If you have not bought anything in Otavalo market, then we recommend you to visit a local one here in Quito where you will find some delightful hand-made items too, for instance, blankets, carpets, hats, clothes or many different souvenirs.

Day 12. Quito - End of the tour

Your tour in Ecuador ends today. We hope to see you again!

Important: we require every passenger to possess the travel insurance which will be valid for your stay in Ecuador. There are many providers of such insurance. For example, InsureandGo, TravelGoCompare and others so choose the one that suits you best. Your travel insurance must provide cover against personal accident, death, medical expenses and emergency repatriation with a recommended minimum coverage of US$200,000 for each of the categories of cover. We also strongly recommend it covers cancellation, curtailment, personal liability and loss of luggage and personal effects.

Difficulty of the tour


  • Deposit: £250 per person paid to our trustee account after receiving the confirmation of services from us. In this confirmation, we will include all the details on how to pay the deposit & the balance.
  • The balance: £940 per person paid to our trustee account. Please, notice that the full balance has to be paid at least 45 days before departure.
  • There is no single supplement in this tour. You will be in the shared accommodation.

Cancellation Policy

If you want to cancel a reservation…

You have to inform us about the cancellation in writing. In the case of “Under the Waterfalls”, the cancellation policy is following

Up to 45 days before the departure – Tauri Travel will retain the deposit.
44 – 0 days before the departure – Tauri Travel will retain 100% of the payment.
We strongly recommend buying a travel insurance which covers cancellation from your side.

What can I expect from this tour?

It is a backpacking tour which means sleeping in basic shared accommodation with other hotels’ guests. Undeniably you will have an opportunity to meet lots of interesting people – speaking even basics Spanish would be an advantage here but if you are not a Spanish speaker remember that this tour is operated privately with the English-speaking guide. More precisely, your group will follow the program with our guide without additional people.
