Day 1. Santa Cruz de la Sierra: arrivals & welcome meeting
Day 2. Santa Cruz (city tour)
Day 3. Santa Cruz - Samaipata - Santa Cruz
At 06:30 am we will pick you up from your hotel and begin our beautiful trip passing by the series of mountains, spaces fulfilled of diverse vegetation and enjoying panoramic views of the extreme Andes Range. Approximately, at 10:30 we will arrive at the archaeological site called “El Fuerte” (Incas last vestige) where you will be able to discover the mystery of this enigmatic place. We will have lunch, and in the afternoon we will visit Samaipata town with its archaeological museum. Then, we will also visit a handicrafts centre as well as the main square and its surroundings. At 3 pm we will get back on the road to Santa Cruz. On our way, we will stop at “Cascadas de Las Cuevas”. It is an exotic place with clear small waterfalls, where you can take a bath. Arrival to Santa Cruz is planned at around 7 pm.
Day 4. Santa Cruz - Sucre
In the morning we will pick you up from your hotel and transfer to the airport. Breakfast included.
Flight Santa Cruz – Sucre (not included: the price is usually £25-35 pounds).
At arrive, we will be waiting for you at the airport. Then, transfer to your hotel is planned. In the afternoon we will pick you up in a private vehicle to begin the tour. Firstly, we will go to the Church, Convent/Viewpoint of “La Recoleta” which is a Franciscan monastery located at the foot of the Churuquella mountain. Then we will go to the Indigenous Art Museum (ASUR) in which you will have the chance to see a display of the richness of textiles produced by two local cultures: Tarabuco y Jalq’a. Finally, we will visit “Casa de la Libertad” (The House of Freedom) where the independence document of the Alto Peru (now known as the Plurinational State of Bolivia) was signed. This place is a museum where significant historical pieces and records from the independence time of Bolivia are kept. We will finish our tour walking through the Main Square, and we will go back to the hotel.
Day 5. Sucre
OPTION 1: Paleontological tour
We begin the tour at 08:00 approximately towards “La Calancha” we walk during 1 and a half hour to see paleontological remains, place with sedimentary rocks, and strata of rocks that show the transformation of the planet through the time. Then, we will visit the “Churuquella” Hill. We will walk for half an hour to the footprints. Then, we will visit the Cretaceous park, where you will be able to appreciate a great variety and quantity of prehistoric animal tracks of different species, considered as the largest sample of footprints in the world. At night you can have the chance to enjoy a unique folkloric show in Bolivia.
OPTION 2: Tarabuco (available only on Sunday)
We will begin the tour travelling 78 Km to get to Tarabuco (It will take around 1 hour). Tarabuco is certainly one of the best traditional markets in South America, which includes a big fair every Sunday. Early in the afternoon, we will continue the tour to see the traditional dresses of “Tarabuqueño” that has not changed since Inca Times. Their tissues are the best in technology, quality, and colour. Return to Sucre.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included. We will spend a night in Sucre.
Day 6. Sucre - Potosí
Transfer from Sucre to Potosí by bus.
At arrival, transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon, we will visit the monument of mines and mining market. Mining is a fundamental feature of Bolivian economy. Also, we will meet the women miners (palliris) and visit a cooperative mine.
Overnight in Potosí, standard room. The breakfast is included this day.
Day 7. Potosí - Uyuni
Day 8. Colchani - Uyuni Salt Flat - Ajencha
We will pick you up from your hotel at around 11 am. Firstly, we will visit astonishing Salar de Uyuni. After some minutes of travelling in this infinite salt plane, we will arrive at the “Salt Hotel-Museum” – it is a building made from the salt blocks which acted as a hotel at the beginning. Now, it is museum only. If you book this tour during the raining season (from December to March), then we will be able to see fantastic optic illusions. We will also visit “Ojos de Agua” (Eyes of water) which are small salt eruptions. At noon, you will reach the “Incahuasi Island” in the middle of the Salt flat; there are extraordinary calcareous rocks, local fauna, many Cactus and spectacular 360 grades panoramic views of the Salt Flat from the summit. After lunch, we will go ahead to the town of Ajencha to our accommodation in the south part of the salt flat.
Overnight in Basic Shelter. Lunch and dinner are included during this day.
Day 9. Ajencha - Red Lagoon
After the breakfast, we will have the opportunity to see a couple of volcanoes – some of them are still active. Then we will go to Lípez where, from a distance, we can observe the Ollagüe Volcano. Then, we will continue the trip to the Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve. On our way, we will appreciate the lagoons called “Joyas Altoandinas” (Jewels from the High Lands): Cañapa, Hedionda, Chiarcota and Honda. You will have the chance to see different kinds of local birds there. Later, we will get to the Siloli Desert where we will make some stops to take pictures of the magnificent desert landscapes. Inside you will find the famous rocky formation called the Stone Tree. Then, we will finally get to the Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve and arrive at Laguna Colorada (The Red Lagoon) which is an impressing water source and the main flamingos nesting site. In this marvellous place, it is possible to observe three kinds of flamingos of the region: James, Andino and Chileno. You will observe that the lagoon has brown and intense red colours thanks to the algae and plankton. Overnight in the local community, standard room. During this day breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.
Day 10. Red Lagoon - Green Lagoon - Uyuni
This day we need to get up very early to start the tour around at 5:30 am to observe the Geysers of “Sol de Mañana” – smoky and noisy geysers, boiling mud stewpot where red and grey mud is boiling. Later, we will enjoy a bath in the hot springs. Despite the low temperatures, it is an unforgettable experience. We will continue our trip almost to the border between Bolivia and Chile – Hito Cajon. On the way, we will enjoy the panoramic view of the Dali Desert. There are columns of stones sculpted by the wind. The landscapes look like in the few of surrealistic Dali’s famous paintings. After that, we will also appreciate the Laguna Verde (Green Lagoon), at the foot of Licancabur volcano. From the Green Lagoon, we will begin the trip back to Uyuni. In the afternoon, we will take a walk around the Rocks Valley, giant volcanic rocks (from 8 to 15 m high). Our last stop is at San Cristóbal village which has been moved from its original site to the actual one for the needs of one the biggest mine in Bolivia. Arrival to Uyuni around at 6 pm. Overnight in Uyuni. Yummy breakfast included.
Day 11. Uyuni - La Paz
Transfer from Uyuni to La Paz by bus. At arrival, transfer to your hotel.
In the afternoon at 14:00 we will pick you up from your hotel to start the city tour,
- Visit colourful typical, mystical and handicraft markets,
- Tour through the historic downtown, with remarkable architectural richness,
- Amazing panoramic views on board a modern cable car.
Return to the hotel. Overnight in La Paz, breakfast included.
Day 12. La Paz - Copacabana - Isla del Sol - La Paz
Breakfast. We will pick you up from your hotel between 07:00 and 07:30 am and we will begin our trip to the Titicaca Lake. We will travel through the Altiplano (High Plateau). After a 2 hour trip, we will arrive at the Strait of Tiquina. We will cross it on a local ferry. Then, we will arrive in Copacabana town at 12:00 and we will have lunch there at a local restaurant. After the meal, we will get on the boat to explore the Titicaca Lake, along with other tourists and town people, to Isla del Sol (Sun Island). There we will visit Yumani and, then, we will visit “Escalinata Del Inca” (Inca’s stairs) which leads to the “Fuente de las 3 Aguas” (the Fountain of the 3 Watersheds). According to the tradition, if you drink from its water, you will have an eternal life. Then, we will return to Copacabana where we will see the town. Copacabana is enriched by the religious sanctuary in honour of Candelaria Madonna.
Transfer to La Paz by bus at 6.30 pm, The arrival to La Paz bus station around at 10 pm, then, transfer to the hotel. Overnight in La Paz. Breakfast and lunch included.
Day 13. La Paz - Coroico - La Paz
At 08:00 am we will pick you up from your hotel, and we will begin the trip to the magical region of Los Yungas, the geographical transition between the altiplano to the Amazonian rainforest which is a real spectacle of the ecological diversity. We will start ascending to “la Cumbre” at 4700 m, from where you will enjoy the incredible view of the majestic Real Andean Range. Later on, we will begin going down more than 2000 meters through rocky mountains, the snow-capped peaks and foggy forests to the fertile and subtropical jungles of Los Yungas. After 3 hours, we will arrive at the “Senda Verde”, the Animal Refuge located 7km away from Coroico. There is a shelter for animals which have been rescued from the wildlife traffic. You will have a chance to learn about wild fauna in Bolivia. After the visit, we will have lunch, and then, we will go to the specific town of Coroico where you will experience a rise in the temperature as the climate turns warm. We will visit the town and its agricultural areas, which produce abundant crops of coca, coffee and citric fruits (depending on the time of the year).
Return to La Paz, if the travellers are ready for a pure adventure, we can go the way back through the famous “Death Road”. Overnight in La Paz. Breakfast and lunch included.
Day 14. La Paz. It was great to meet you!
Important: we require every passenger to possess the travel insurance which will be valid for your stay in Bolivia. There are many providers of such insurance. For example, InsureandGo, TravelGoCompare and others so choose the one that suits you best. Your travel insurance must provide cover against personal accident, death, medical expenses and emergency repatriation with a recommended minimum coverage of US$200,000 for each of the categories of cover. We also strongly recommend it covers cancellation, curtailment, personal liability and loss of luggage and personal effects.
Difficulty of the tour
An average healthy person can attend this tour – it is not very challenging. Trekking is an included activity; there also will be an opportunity to swim. Please notice that in Bolivia there are locations which are elevated above 2500 m and therefore, you may (but necessarily have to) suffer from the altitude sickness. If you are not sure whether you can attend this tour, we firmly advise making an appointment with your GP to discuss it.

What can I expect from this tour? 🙂
Exploring landscapes much different from European ones, that’s for sure. In general, this tour is operated privately (just for your group) and you will be accommodated in 3* hotels throughout your journey – the exceptions are one night spent in Ajencha in a basic shelter in shared accommodation with no hot water and one night spent with the local community. What is important, in Bolivia there are locations elevated above 2500 m which may (but necessarily have to) cause an altitude sickness. We advise you print the itinerary and visit your GP to discuss whether you can attend this tour. An average healthy person would not have any problems with completing the program.
