“Follow the Llama in Peru” is designed for private groups (2-10 people). This tour is full of adventures: you will have an opportunity to explore the capital of Peru with its magical viewpoints, to take the cruise on the giant Titicaca Lake and to visit Colca Canyon which is one of the biggest canyons in the world. Need more attractions? Then what about Arequipa and its snow-covered Misti volcano? Finally, of course, we will not miss the occasion to discover the spectacular ruins of Machu Picchu. Follow the llama while admiring the diversity of the nature in South America.

Please, notice that we use public transport on this tour. When moving between locations, one guide will ensure that you safely entered the right long-distance bus and you will be picked up by another guide once you reached the next destination.

Day 1. Lima: arrivals & welcome meeting

Welcome to Lima, the capital of Peru. There are no activities planned for today as we want to give you time to rest after the journey. Late afternoon/evening there will be a meeting in the hotel with the leader of your group who will explain in more details the plan of your stay in Peru. Hungry? Don’t worry; the price includes yummy supper.

Day 2. Lima

Breakfast and then sightseeing of historical and modern parts of Lima. Firstly, we will see the colonial part of the city which is listed on the World Cultural Heritage UNESCO, more specifically: Plaza de Armas, the presidential palace, Cathedral de San Francisco and catacombs. Then, we will go up the hill to admire the panoramic view of the city. In the early afternoon, we will go to the Miraflores district which is located in the modern part of the Lima, on the craggy shore of the Pacific Ocean.

Day 3. Lima - Paracas

Early start at around 4 am. After receiving a box lunch for your breakfast, we will depart to Paracas. We will board a boat there which will take us to the Ballestas Islands. On this island, it is possible to observe a gathering of birds and sea lions. Also, we will see candelabrum, the giant trident created on the surface of coastal cliffs in the Pisco Bay. The formation measures 180 m. Later, we will go back to land and free afternoon is for your disposition.

Day 4. Paracas - Ica

Breakfast, and then transport to Ica. The main point of this location is surrounded by dunes of fabulous Huacachina Oasis. We encourage you to try sandboarding or to ride an off-road car. Later, transfer to Arequipa by convenient night bus.

Day 5. Arequipa

Welcome to „White” city, as this is how locals call Arequipa. The city is located 2300 m above the sea level, at the footstep of Misti Volcano. Arequipa offers an astonishing viewpoint, called “Mirador de Yanahuara” with the view of the mentioned volcano. Besides, we will see the main square “Plaza de Armas”, basilica, a monastery of St. Catherine and San Camilo market which offers many fresh fruits.

Day 6. Colca Canyon

Early morning, after the breakfast at around 8.00 am., we will go to explore one of the deepest canyons in the world. During the tour, you will visit the National Reserve of Salinas and Aguada Blanca. You may see there one of the biggest birds in the world: majestic condors. In this national park live also other animals such as llamas, alpacas or wild vicuñas (kind of the South American Camel). Moreover, in Pampa Cañahuas it is possible to appreciate different types of birds such as flamingos, herons, geese Andean ducks, eagles of the Andes “Kara Kara”. Then, we will arrive at the viewpoint of the volcano where we will have a privileged view of snow-covered mountains in Patapampa (4800 m.-15 000 feet)
Next, we will arrive in Chivay, the capital of the valley. Lunch and accommodation in the hotel. During the afternoon, we have the option to visit “La Calera” baths, with a temperature of 40º. The water has medicinal properties.

Day 7. Colca - Puno

After breakfast, we begin our journey along the left margin of Colca River, visiting the beautiful and typical villages such as Yanque Maca, colonial churches.
In the viewpoint of the “Cruz del Condor”, we will appreciate the depth of the canyon and the flight of the majestic condor, on the way back we will see lito models, pre-Inca tombs.
Later that day, after lunch, we will go towards Puno and Titicaca Lake located more than 3800 m above the sea level. Due to its size and depth, the lake may be confused with the sea. After arrival, you will have time to accommodate in the hotel and a free afternoon. We recommend going up the hill to visit viewpoint from which the whole city and lake are visible.

Overnight in Puno.

Day 8. Puno: Titicaca Lake. Uros and Amantani Islands

Early start and then exciting cruise on the Titicaca lake. After the breakfast, we will go to a harbour where a boat will take us, firstly, to the Uros floating islands. These islands are made by the inhabitants, and they consist of totora reed. Then, we will reach the Amantani Island where we are going to spend the night with a local family. On the island, we can admire views, enjoy the charm of the Amantani and explore the lifestyle of local society.

Day 9. Amantani and Taquile Islands. Return to Puno

We get up at dawn and go for another part of the cruise. This time, we will visit Taquile island, where there are again lots of amazing views. Then, we will go for lunch and return to Puno. You will have a free afternoon here.

Day 10. Puno - Cusco

Breakfast and transfer to Cusco. After arrival and accommodation in the hotel, you will have a whole day free for independent sightseeing. Everyone surely will find an activity for himself in the capital of the Incas. We recommend you to relax on the main square of Cusco, go for a walk to the viewpoint or go shopping to San Pedro market which offers lots of traditional products.

Day 11. Cusco - Aguas Calientes

This is an adventure day which contains the full-day excursion to Aguas Calientes. Early morning, after the breakfast, we will go by minibus towards Santa Theresa. This part of journey lasts about 6-7 hours. The way should be pleasant because of the astonishing views visible from the bus windows. Then, we will leave the paved road and, by squeezing between the mountains, we will reach Hydroelectrica. Then, we will go for an exciting walk (about 2-3 hours) along the Urubamba river to Aguas Calientes where we should arrive between 5 and 6 p.m. It is quite an exhaustive day, however, with the element of adventure. Definitely, you will not forget beautiful views.

Day 12. Aguas Calientes: Machu Picchu

Without doubts, one of the most exciting days of the journey. It can be said that this is the culmination of the tour. After breakfast, we will enjoy the walk in the stunning ruins of Machu Picchu. Everyone will receive free time for the individual exploration. From Aguas Calientes, there are two ways to get to the ruins. The first one is more challenging, as it is hiking up the stairs located in the forest and this walk takes 2 hours. The second one is much easier and quicker as it involves going by bus (about 30 minutes). However, the second option costs additional $40 for a one-way ticket.

Day 13. Aguas Calientes - Cusco

Today, we take a train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo towards Cusco. On the way, we will visit Maras Salt Mine, Moray, and Chinchero Archeological site. In the afternoon, we will reach Cusco by the mini-bus. A free evening is given to rest.

Day 14. Cusco – Lima (long-distance bus journey - around 21h)

Before transfer to Lima, we will have the opportunity to explore famous cultivated oval terraces in Morat, the sacred valley of Incas and Maras salt pools. In the afternoon or evening, transfer to Lima by comfortable long-distance bus. This transfer will take about 21 hours.

Day 15. Lima

Arrival to Lima and accommodation in hotel. After the long journey from Cusco, we recommend taking some time to relax.

Day 16. Lima

Last moments in South America. This day is free for your disposition. We propose you to lose yourself in Lima once again, to take some additional photos or to buy interesting souvenirs. In the evening, we will have the goodbye supper.

Day 17. Lima: we hope to see you again!

Your adventure in Peru ends this day. We wish you a safe journey back home and a lot of wonderful adventures in the future. 🙂

Important: we require every passenger to possess the travel insurance which will be valid for your stay in Peru. There are many providers of such insurance. For example, InsureandGo, TravelGoCompare and others so choose the one that suits you best. Your travel insurance must provide cover against personal accident, death, medical expenses and emergency repatriation with a recommended minimum coverage of US$200,000 for each of the categories of cover. We also strongly recommend to buy insurance which covers cancellation, curtailment, personal liability and loss of luggage and personal effects.

Difficulty of the tour

Following the Llama is a quite challenging tour – you have to able to trek for around 2-4 hours at once up the hills or mountains. In general, to attend this tour, you do not have to be sport active on a regular basis. However, a certain level of a physical condition is required.

If you have any doubts about whether this tour is for you, then we advise contacting your GP. Book a consultation with your doctor especially if you believe that any previous health problems (e.g. problems with breathing or heart) may affect your health during this tour.

Payments

  • Deposit: £250 per person paid to our trustee account after receiving the confirmation of services from us. In this confirmation, we will include all the details on how to pay the deposit & the balance.
  • The balance: £1449 per person paid to our trustee account. Please, notice that the full balance has to be paid at least 55 days before departure.
  • Wanna a single room? A single supplement for this tour is USD $350 pp.

Cancellation Policy

If you want to cancel a reservation…

You have to inform us about the cancellation in writing. In the case of “Follow the Llama in Peru”, the cancellation policy is following

Up to 55 days before the departure – Tauri Travel will retain the deposit.
54 – 0 days before the departure – Tauri Travel will retain 100% of the payment.
We strongly recommend buying a travel insurance which covers cancellation from your side.
