Late afternoon/evening, there is a meeting in the hotel/hostel with your team/group leader who will explain you in more details what is going to happen during your stay in Ecuador.

Day 2. Guayaquil - Puerto López

Half a day of sightseeing in Guayaquil: you will have a chance to see the city from its central spot by the river Guayas. You will go through the small park of iguanas where you can see these animals from the very close distance. Then you will be taken to the top of the view point on the hill from which you will see the panoramic view of the city. In the early afternoon, we all go to Puerto López. The journey will take from 4 to 5 hours. In the evening, you will arrive at Puerto López.

Day 3. Puerto López / Pacific Ocean

We start the day early. After breakfast you will see the town – it is not big, so sightseeing will not take much time. Then, we will take you for a trip to Machalilla National Park and Las Playas Frailes, which are famous beaches in Ecuador. In the afternoon, you will return to the town and enjoy a bit of time to relax.

Day 4. Puerto López

This day is for your disposition, so you can do whatever you wish. We recommend you to take a tour to see whales (from June to October) or to visit Isla de la Plata, also called “Small Galápagos”. Alternatively just chill on the beach.

Day 5. Puerto López – Santo Domingo

Early start, we will go to Santo Domingo to visit an indigenous Tsachilas group who lives there. These residents are famous for their culture and traditions, and you will have an opportunity to see their way of living.

Day 6. Santo Domingo – Mindo

After breakfast, we will travel to Mindo, also known as the “Cloud Forest”. Here, you will see a good example of the Ecuadorian nature. You will have a chance to admire wonderful and colourful species of birds such as toucans, parrots or hummingbirds. There is also a butterfly farm. After the exploration of the location with our guide, we recommend you to relax and enjoy your free evening.

Day 7. Mindo – Mitad del Mundo – Quito

After breakfast, we will go towards Quito to visit the iconic place – Mitad del Mundo (The Middle of the World) where the equatorial line divides the Earth. In this amazing location, you will have a chance to be in the northern and southern hemispheres at the same time. Then, we will go to the Intinan museum in which a guide will present some interesting experiments with gravitation. 🙂

Day 8. Quito

Welcome to the capital of Ecuador. The city’s elevation is more than 2,800 m (9186 ft) over the sea level so that you may notice the difference in your breathing, but don’t worry as it is quite common. We will not start the day straight after the journey so you may rest a while. After the breakfast, you will explore the city centre with its baroque Churches, cathedrals and white colonial houses. Then, we will go to the top of the Panecillo hill to see the winged virgin monument and to admire the panorama of the city. Finally, we offer you a free afternoon so you can explore the place on your own.

Day 9. Quito - Otavalo

Early start. After breakfast, we will go to Otavalo which is famous for its handmade products – you can buy handicrafts in many spots of the town. If you are lucky to be there on Saturday, you can experience one of the largest and the most colourful handicraft market in South America. On the other days, you can still buy plenty of souvenirs in the Plaza de los Ponchos and the local shops. Later that day, we will go to visit another fantastic place: Cuicocha Crater. There is a lake inside a crater at the foot of the volcano Cotacachi. This lake’s diameter is roughly 3 km. The crater is not completely asleep, and it is possible to do the boat tour around the lake.

Day 10. Otavalo - Cotopaxi National Park

We start the day early. After breakfast, we will go to the National Park of Cotopaxi. Here, you will see the famous volcano Cotopaxi, one of the highest in the world (5,897 m / 19347 ft ). This stratovolcano is cone-shaped and snow-covered. Evening, transfer to the hostel/hotel in Latacunga.

Day 11. Latacunga (Quilotoa volcano) – Baños

After breakfast, we will go first to the Quilotoa volcano, a spectacular place where you will see another lake inside the crater. The lake is located 3,500 m above the sea level (11482 ft). A breathtaking viewpoint is guaranteed. Then we will be heading towards Baños.

Day 12. Baños

Be ready for the exciting day as there are over 60 waterfalls near this location. After lunch, we will see the town and then we will jump on the mountain bikes and go along the way of waterfalls “La Ruta de las Cascadas”.
